Grand Opening
June 7, 2003

On June 7, 2003, after thousands of hours of volunteer labor and many, many gracious monetary and material donations, we celebrated our Grand Opening! The day began with the arrival of dozens of vintage and contemporary aircraft and automobiles:

Throughout the day, visitors watched the comings and goings of aircraft such as the
Rose Parakeet and Boeing PT-17 Stearman...

...while the skies were filled with numerous aircraft fly-bys and formation demonstrations.

On the ground, the sun made the vintage vehicles gleam. The atmosphere
of the airfield was laid-back and magical. One could easily
imagine it was another time and another place.

Inside the historic Springfield and Crites ("Waukesha") Hangars,
the displays told the story of the Museum's creation, and also
educated visitors about the aircraft, vehicles, engines, people,
places and events which helped shaped our nation's history.

It was a truly memorable day -- one of many we hope to provide in the years to come. If you would like to visit the Vintage Wings and Wheels Museum and take some of the magic home with you, please see our Contact page for directions and operating hours.

Even better, we'd love to have you join the Museum as a supporting member and/or volunteer! Call us at 815-547-3115, and we'll tell you about the opportunities.
